Why Do You Need Safe Emailing?

There are two main risks connected with email communication:

The email can be read by someone other than the intended recipient (e.g. by intercepting the email or sending it to the wrong person)
Sender authenticity, how do you know the email really came from the person in the “from” field? (email spoofing and hijacking are common problems today)

With SecretAgent and MailerID you can easily eliminate both these risks:

Encryption will ensure that the email can only be read by the intended recipient
Signing will ensure the recipient that the email really came from you

How to Send Safe Emails

To send an encrypted email

Create the email as usual and just
click the encrypt button. The email will automatically be encrypted for the recipients when you click send.

To decrypt a received email

When you receive an encrypted email, it will have a different icon.
To view the content of the email, you just double click on it as you normally would, to open it.

To send a digitally signed email

Create the email as usual and just click the sign button. The email will now automatically be signed when you click send.

To verify a digitally signed email

When you receive a signed email, it will have a different icon.
When you double click on the email, the signature will be verified and the signer’s information will be displayed. You can now be sure that the sender is who he says he is.

While there have been products on the market that address both these issues for a while, they have always been associated with an administrative burden for the users. As part of providing a good service to their clients, most companies are reluctant to put in place a system that might be perceived as cumbersome by the client.
