SecretAgent® Reader

Overview

SA5Reader is a freely downloadable, decrypt-only version of SecretAgent for Windows. It allows you to open any archive that was encrypted for you by a SecretAgent 5 user by simply entering your password and clicking Decrypt. All you need to supply is the PKCS#12 private key file (or SA5 .prv file) corresponding to your X.509 certificate.

NOTE: SA5Reader cannot generate keys or certificate requests, encrypt files, validate digital signatures, or handle CMS or OpenPGP file formats. Nor does it support FORTEZZA or PKCS#11 tokens. For those additional features, you'll need to license a copy of the full SecretAgent for Windows product.

SecretAgent Reader is available for Windows and Mac OS X platforms.

SecretAgent® Reader for Windows

To install the Reader

After you have downloaded the installer:

Run the downloaded file, if it is not started automatically by your browser, and follow the instructions presented by the installation program.

The program should now be installed and associated with .sa5 files. (If the full SA5 package is already installed on your system, the Windows file association for .sa5 files is not changed.)

To decrypt a file

Start SA5Reader and select the .sa5 file you wish to decrypt. (If .sa5 files are associated in Windows with SA5Reader, you can simply double click an encrypted .sa5 file in Windows Explorer, or double click a .sa5 file attachment in your e-mail client, and SA5Reader should start automatically with the proper filename already specified.)

The changing graphic at the top of this dialog is simply advertising... ignore it, or click on it to visit a web page containing more information about the advertised item.

Complete the rest of the form. If desired, you may modify the Output path (the target directory for plaintext files), and the file specification for your Decryption key (a .p12, .pfx, or SA5 .prv file). Your preferences for these three items will be remembered when you exit the program.

Enter the password for your private key and then click Decrypt.

When decryption is complete, a list of the plaintext contents of the archive will appear in a Decryption Status dialog. You can double click on any filename in that list to open that file in the appropriate Windows application. When done, close the Status dialog.

Click Close to terminate the SA5Reader application.

To uninstall SA5Reader:

Use the Add/Remove Programs option in your Windows control panel.
