Vertical Solutions - Bank & Finance
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 requires financial institutions in
the United States to institute safeguards to maintain the confidentiality
of personal financial information. More recently, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act
mandates that US public companies impose controls and procedures to prevent
fraud, unauthorized activity, or the loss of vital data.
Mobile computing devices are perhaps the most dangerous component of
the distributed network since users often store both sensitive financial
information (credit card numbers, account numbers, personal identifiers)
and the passwords needed to access those accounts. Many PDAs also contain
corporate data that is useful to have easily accessible but that may be
of sensitive nature.
The loss or theft of any device not only threatens a particular user
account, but potentially entire systems. Worse still, these devices are
used in non-secure environments which increase the risk of unauthorized
access.
